The Crones of IGNIS
The Latin word for fire, IGNIS. pops on this embellished shop torso. As the traditional language of the Catholic Church latin was the lexicon for the persecution of witches. The Malleus Maleficarum, written by Heinrich Kramer and published in 1487 became the Church’s permission to violently persecute pagans.
The torso reimagines the demonizing narrative of Hans Baldung Grien’s etching Witches (1510). The original scene demeans naked older woman gathered in what would have been perceived as a satanic ritual.
Fire as a weapon burning pagan bodies, becomes a symbol of Crone power and the intuitive fabulousness of the post menopausal woman, gathered in celebration around the triangular elemental symbol for fire.
Materials include paper Mache, paper clay, tissue and glitter paper, acrylic paint, glitter, rhinestonespearl beads and varnish.

Vanity Suit
With a stylized dollar sign in the center the suit highlights the devaluing or hollowing of women and the feminine to a sexualized material form and how this relates to women’s sexuality as currency. In a masculine dominated world the fetishized female form is overlayed on the body of all women. How does the currency of female sexually empower women? Does it “free” women? Or are women consumed by the toxic femininity that binds them to impossible ideals and drains them of engagement with intuitive feminine energy? Can women ever truly benefit from the currency of feminine sexuality in a capitalist society where all meaning is reduced to an object and its monetary value? In a world dominated by masculine energy AKA Patriarchy how does the objectivization and subjugation of women also diminish masculine energy and male identity? Where is the reverence for the feminine divine and conversely the male divine when being female is chained to one dimension in subjugation to the male gaze and masculine power?
